THE GAME

Normal rules and penalties of the NCAA apply unless exceptions have been made below. Game will consist of a single 20-minute period. Each team is allowed two 30-second time-outs per game. Time outs must be called while in possession of the ball or during a dead ball. There are no timeouts in an overtime period. First team to score 21 points wins that game. There is no “win by two points”. If time expires before any team reaches 21 points, whichever team has scored more points will be declared the winner.  All baskets made inside the 3-point line will count as one point. All baskets beyond the 3-point line count as two points. There are no foul shots, but player fouled will retain possession of the ball. If the score is tied at the end of playing time, an extra period of time will be played. There shall be a break of 1 minute before the overtime starts. The first team to score 2 points in the overtime wins the game.

BEGINNING OF THE GAME

Paper/Rock/Scissors shall determine which team gets the first possession. The team that wins will start with ball possession at the beginning of the game. Each team shall field a maximum of 3 players on the court at one time. The minimum number of players for an official game is 2.

SUBSTITUTIONS

There is no limit on the number of substitutions per team. Substitutions may be made after any stoppage of play. Substitutions can only take place from the sidelines and require no action from the referees.

PLAYING RULES

  • The defensive player must check the ball at the top of the key before it is put into play to start the game and after every dead ball.
  • The ball must be passed to a teammate to begin play.
  • The ball will change possession after all made baskets. If the offensive team rebounds the ball, it may continue to attempt to score without returning the ball behind the arc. If the defensive team rebounds or steals the ball, it must return the ball behind the arc (by passing or dribbling). A player is considered to be “behind the arc” when both of their feet are outside the arc. A violation and turn over will be called if the team in possession has not gone “behind the arc” to begin their possession.
  • In the event of a jump ball situation, the defensive team shall be awarded the ball.
  • Stalling is not permitted.  The referee, at their discretion, will initiate a ten-second count to prevent stalling and other delays in action. A violation and turn over will be called if the team in possession has not attempted a shot before the eight-second count.

PERSONAL/TEAM FOULS

Fouls during the act of shooting shall be awarded possession. After 5 “Team Fouls” , a player who is fouled during the act of shooting followed by a successful field goal shall be awarded 1 additional point. Non shooting fouls will result in a reset of possession. Players cannot foul out, however, a player deemed to be excessively fouling will be warned and subsequently disqualified if the behavior continues.

TECHNICAL FOULS

Technical fouls are counted as personal fouls. Any individual that is assessed two technical fouls will be ejected from the game. (Depending on the severity of the technical foul a player can be ejected after being assessed 1 technical under the discretion of the referee.) All technical fouls result in 1 free throw and ball possession. We want to have fun and want all to enjoy the experience!

PLAYOFFS

Playoffs will consist of the top teams playing in a single elimination tournament. If there is a tie in the standings, we will go to the “Play-In Game” (head-to-head match-up) to determine seeding. Game rules apply to each “Play-in Game”.

A “Play-In Game” will consist of a single 5-minute period. There are no time-outs. First team to score 5 points wins that game and advances.

PLAYOFF ELIGIBILITY

All players must be added to a team’s official roster before the day begins to be eligible for Playoffs. Adding players to a team without registering will lead to an immediate disqualification of the entire team.
